Many different brands have been releasing their Christmas products and collaborations over these last few weeks, but it’s not often they’re reduced before Christmas, so is there a reason behind it, or is this just something Revolution do each year? Well, technically Revolution do reduce some of their Christmas products early, but I’m wondering if there’s more to it than that. If you have no clue what I’m talking about then I’m not surprised, I have been pretty vague so far.
If you’re unfamiliar with Soph, then she’s a beauty YouTuber who also works with Revolution. I’m a big fan of her content, it’s always so genuine and she seems like a lovely girl. She’s had quite a few collaborations with Revolution and she’s always so proud to announce them on her own channel, but if you follow her too then you may have noticed that she hasn’t said a word about the Christmas products Revolution have released claiming to be part of her collection, which I think is definitely a little weird. So, in today’s post we’ll be reviewing and chatting about the Totally Soph Kit.
The Contour Trio
I thought this was quite a nice little product to add to the set, it’s something everyone can get some use out of. Having said that, I’m not sure how suitable the contour shade will be for deeper skin tones, it is quite light, but I like the fact that it’s cool toned. In terms of the other shade, (the shade on the right) I’m not entirely sure if it’s a contour shade or a blush. It’s quite pinky for contouring but I think it’s a little dark for me to use as a blush, both shades however, are nicely pigmented and blend really well into the skin, just as I’d expect from Revolution. The highlight shade in the middle is a subtle, shimmery highlight which is exactly what I like. This is great for a bit of everyday highlighter, but if you like something a little more intense then I think this would be a bit too subtle for you. It is a white highlight, but because it’s so sheer I think it would work nicely on every skin tone.
The Lip Gloss’
The three lip gloss’ are in the shades as Soph’s original lipsticks; Cake, Syrup, and Fudge. This supports my suspicion that Soph didn’t have a whole lot to do with this collaboration. With this set being advertised as her Christmas collaboration I would have thought that they might have included some new festive shades rather using colours that already exist. That being said, I do really love all three of these shades, they’re so versatile and would compliment almost any eye makeup look – who doesn’t love a good nude shade to complete their look? The lip gloss’ are really pigmented and don’t feel sticky or uncomfortable on the lips, I’ve never really been a fan of lip gloss, but I’ll certainly be wearing it more after receiving these.
The Eyeshadow Palette
Admittedly, this was the main reason I bought this set, I have a bit of a thing for eyeshadow so couldn’t resist adding another one to my collection. The shades in this palette are gorgeous, they’re perfect for this time of year, and what eyeshadow palette is complete without some beautiful shimmers? The gold glitter shade is just amazing, I know I’ll be getting a lot of use out of it this season.
This palette only includes 12 shades, compared to her other palettes which contain 25 and 18 shades, it’s not a lot, but as it’s part of a set I don’t think this is a problem. With only 12 shades, there’s still a great variety of cool toned transition shades and bolder, fun shades to create multiple different looks. There are a few shades in here that are pretty similar to ones that already exist in Soph’s previous two collaborative palettes with Revolution, and if you own them then I’m sure you can see which ones they are, but it’s still a lovey palette with a great combination of colours.
What do I Really Think?
Do I think this kit was reduced because they didn’t actually work with Soph on it? No, I actually think that Revolution knowingly over price their Christmas products with the intention of bringing them down to a pretty reasonable price knowing that people are much more likely to buy if they think it’s ‘reduced’. I love Revolution as a brand, their advertisement for their new foundation was totally inspirational, but I think this particular marketing technique is a little sneaky. £18 for this set is still quite a bargain though, and I’ll leave a link below so you can check it out for yourself.
Do I think there’s some gossip to be had around whether Soph had anything to do with the collaboration? Well, I think there’s definitely more to it than we know, it seems a bit strange to me that SophDoesNails never mentioned it on her own channel, but she could just be waiting to talk about it nearer Christmas for all we know. I don’t think this is something that really crosses people’s mind when buying Soph’s Christmas collection, but from a content creators perspective I just thought it was quite interesting that this collection didn’t get any publicity compared to all the other influencer collaborations Revolution have been doing recently.
