I’ve VERY recently started filling in my eyebrows (I know, I’m late to the game) but I thought it would be a good opportunity to compare two of my favourite eyebrow pencils! Today I’m going to compare Benefits’ £25 Brow Pencil to NYX’s £9 version. I know some people prefer to use a brow pomade, but if like me you’re just starting out, then I’d recommend a pencil similar to these.
~Benefit – Precisely My Brow~
I’m sure you’ve probably heard of this eyebrow pencil before, they’re insanely popular and for good reason too! When I tried this out I actually bought it in the mini for £10.50 because I do think £25 is a lot of money for what it is, especially as I wasn’t sure if I’d get on with it! The main downside to buying the mini is that there’s less product *obviously* and it doesn’t come with a spoolie on the end (the little brush for your eyebrows), which I recently found out are quite useful and effective! I used the Precisely My Brow pencil in shade 3 which was the perfect shade for me, it blended nicely with my natural eyebrow colour, and it didn’t look too over the top! I much prefer a natural but defined brow look on myself. It was very easy to use, but it did only last me a month, which means it cost me £2.60 a week, and although that doesn’t sound like a lot but that would quickly add up – if you used it for a whole year then it would cost you £126! If you want to try it for yourself but aren’t too sure if it would work for you then I’d still definitely recommend buying the mini version, just be mindful that it will only last around a month!
~NYX – Micro Brow Pencil~
I bought this one last week because the way it’s presented is very similar to the full size Precisely My Brow pencil, it has the spoolie on the end, it twists at the top to dispense the product, and the size of the tip is all virtually the same! However, I picked this up in shade 3 as well which is called ‘Auburn’, and it’s a little too light and warm toned for me, so I’ve got lighter, slightly ginger eyebrows for a while as I refuse to waste it! I think my actual shade would be ‘Ash Brown’, which I think would probably be a good match for a lot of other darker haired people. The tip is very fine just the Benefit one which is great for precision, and it doesn’t seem to smudge throughout the day! The only thing I would say about this product is that the twisty top feels quite flimsy and cheap, so I am quite careful not to break it when I’m using it. I’ve been using and loving Beautaniq Beauty’s Fill and Tame Brow Gel with both of these pencils, it tints my brows as well and holds them in place all day, I received this in a Birchbox in the shade ‘Brunette’ which matches my eyebrows pretty well!
~Which is Best?~
So, which one do I prefer? Well, they both have great qualities! Benefit’s has slightly better longevity, but NYX’s is more affordable and the product generally lasts longer. I like the pretty, sturdy packaging of Benefit’s Precisely My Brow pencil but at the end of the day the packaging doesn’t really improve the performance of the product. As much as I love Benefit’s brand, NYX’s Micro Brow Pencil has to be the best out of the two because it has a fine tip to make it easier to achieve beautiful sharp brows, they have a good variety of shades, they last all day, and it’s only £9! You can’t really go wrong for £9, can you?
So, we have a winner! I still love both pencils but I’m more likely to reach for NYX’s Micro Brow pencil because I think it’s much better value for money and it’s a great quality product! If you fancy trying them yourself both the mini Precisely My Brow and the NYX brow pencil are cheap enough pick up, and you can usually find them in larger boots stores, or if you’re more of an online shopper then you can find the NYX one here for only £5.99, and the Benefit mini here!
