Hello! Today I’m back with another makeup and beauty post, but this ones a little more special as I’ve done it in collaboration with the lovely Ellie from The Diary of Ellie, so go and check out her post over on her beautiful blog and social media’s:
The Dairy of Ellie – Favourite Makeup Products
I’ve tried to include a variety of different products, so hopefully there’s something for everyone here!
~Urban Decay – All Nighter Setting Spray~
I honestly don’t know how I lived without this one before I started using it! If you’ve been wanting to try a setting spray but don’t know what you want from it then I’d 100% recommend this one. I only started using it a few months ago but it’s crazy how good it is, I’d consider myself a makeup junkie but hadn’t really invested in a setting spray before because I didn’t really get it, I didn’t think spraying my face would help at all and I had heard they just make your face a little shiny. I shop in boots a lot for makeup and I’m often attracted to the Benefit counter, mainly because their packing is gorgeous, I was specifically after a setting spray and so I asked the girl at the counter if Benefit does a spray, it turns out they don’t but she did recommend the Urban Decay one as an alternative, and I’m so glad she did! It keeps my makeup in place all day, whether I’m out for the day or just lounging around, it doesn’t budge, and instead of making my face shiny it makes it look glowy. It’s safe to say I’m a big fan of this product if you can’t already tell!
~Too Faced – Peanut Butter and Honey~
If you know me then you know I LOVE eyeshadows, and this is always my go to palette. I have a few different Too Faced palettes but this one is by far my favourite – it’s so cute a tiny. I’m really into yellow right now, especially now that it’s summer, so it’s perfect for when I’m trying to match my eye makeup to my summer outfits. Obviously yellow isn’t the only colour I use in there, but I am surprised at how much I turn to a yellow eye look considering it’s not a look I see often. This palette also includes one of my all-time favourite brown shades, I love it because it’s perfect as a base, builder or just on its own, but I mainly use it as a builder colour in the crease and outer corner of my eye. I think all the brown shades in this palette are so versatile, I can easily create a whole look only using these just because the shades vary so much while still being in the same hue so that they still blend seamlessly.
~Mac – Mocha~
I never used to be a big lipstick fan, I have fairly small lips so I didn’t really want to draw attention to them, but I’d always watch those Instagram makeup tutorials and I just loved the way they’d use a lipstick to match their eye makeup look. When I was in college I had a few friends that used Mac lipsticks and they would swear by them, but I was a little sceptical as I’d heard Mac uses animal testing which I’m totally against (obviously). But after doing a quick bit of research I realised that they actually do not test on animals, or at least they don’t anymore in the UK. At the time (about 2 years ago) a Mac store had just opened up near me too, so how could I resist trying one for myself! The first ever Mac lipstick I bought was the matte Mocha one and I still love it to this day, it stays on all day and even when it does fade a little it still looks pretty, and doesn’t leave that awful ring around your lips looking like you’ve only applied lip liner! It’s such an all-purpose colour too, it’s a dark, earthy red so it’s perfect for autumn/ winter but it still looks good in the summer months, let’s face it, reds look good all year round. For only £15.50 I think it’s worth every penny!
~NYX – Stay Matte but Not Flat~
I feel like finding a good foundation to match your skin is like looking for a needle in a haystack, with SO many different shades available now it almost makes it harder to know which is right for you, and a lot of the time I can barely tell one shade from another, I’ve just settled for the trial and error method and just hope for the best. For quite a few years I’d used the classic school girl Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid foundation, I never had any real problems with it other than how shiny it was, I just remember it looking so wet and dewy (and not the nice dewy), but once I started getting into makeup it just didn’t cut it for me anymore. I tried a few different ones after finally putting down the not so Dreamy Satin Liquid, but I ended up with quite a few foundations I didn’t really like. After little success I decided to try a brand that I already knew I can get along with – NYX. I’d been using their ‘Stay Matte but Not Flat’ powder for a little while and I really liked it, so I thought ‘why not give their foundation a go?’ And then I realised it was only £6, total bargain, right? (And right now it’s only £5.40 at boots!) I tried it in the shade Natural, which turns out to be one of the darker colours amongst their large range of 21 different shades, but I think it’s a pretty good match for my skin tone. I think the quality of this foundation is up there with the high-end products, I absolutely love it, and for only £6 how could you go wrong?
~Too Faced – Better Than Sex~
Choosing my favourite mascara between Too Faced’s Better Than Sex and Benefit’s BADgal Bang was a tough choice, but Too Faced just gets it this time. I didn’t really get on with Benefit’s new mascara at first, it made my lashes quite clumpy to begin with, but I think once it had dried out a little it looked a lot better. Despite this, I’m still in love with Better Than Sex, it always makes my lashes look full and maximises the length of them too, I’ve been using it now since the end of 2016 and I’m still getting on with it so well, and for a high end mascara I think £19 is such a good price!
So here’s my top 5 favourite makeup products, a few of them I’d consider high-end but NYX’s matte foundation it such amazing quality for only £6! I hope you enjoyed this fun little collab with Ellie from The Diary of Ellie as much as I did, and don’t forget to check out her favourite makeup products here!
